What I Love About Working For Myself

I was doing something today that I never could have done in my other jobs.  I got a nose piercing.  Yes, I’m 31 years old and I’m probably not acting my age at all.  Still, this is something that I have wanted to do since I was 19 years old.  Now I get to!  There are a few other things I can do at home that I can’t do in other offices.  I can eat junk food ANY TIME I WANT.  I don’t have to dress to the nines.  I can smart off to my boss (though I look a little crazy when I do that).  I can set my own rules!  I had a guidance counselor in high school years ago that told me I would never be happy working for anyone else.  I guess he was right.

I don’t usually post anything too personal on here.  I feel like most people are looking for information on my business, on how I can help them, or some valuable content pertaining to my target audience.  Still, I like to share with my clients every once in a while.  They’re the reason I’m here and though we may not all keep close friendships, I value each and every client I have.  Every once in a while, I like to share what’s going on.

One more cool thing.  I don’t have to drive to work!  The closest commute here is to Anchorage and it takes about an hour to travel thirteen miles in the morning.  That’s not to mention the bone-chilling cold we’re having.  It was eight degrees in the middle of the afternoon today.  How do you dress for that?

The biggest bonus of all is that I can spend quite a bit of time with my kids.  They enjoy preschool, so I have enrolled them part-time.  I don’t want them shut away with substitute parents all day long, but I do want them to have the interaction and learning exposure that happens in that type of environment.  Isn’t it always true that children always listen and learn better for others than their own parents?  I know it’s true with mine.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend.  It’s back to work for all of us tomorrow.  I’m probably the busiest I’ve ever been and thrilled.  I can’t complain about being busy.  It means I’m doing something right.

Thanks again for reading!
