Moving When You’re a Freelancer

Moving can be good or bad when you’re freelancing. The good thing about freelancing is you can usually take your job anywhere. The bad thing is that if you’re not working, you’re not making money. There’s no paid vacation when you’re a freelancer. Therefore, the tasks involved with moving can impact you heavily. Right now, we’re working on a fast move to Fairbanks, which is almost 400 miles away. We’re packing up our entire residence and taking ourselves and our two kids in less than 2 weeks. It’s kind of scary to think that all the arrangements have to be made and all the tasks have to be performed and it’s pretty much left to me.

It wouldn’t be so bad, but I got this great project last month that’s supposed to be quite large. I’m loving it, but having to outsource it to others so that I can service this client the way they need to be taken care of. I’m hoping I can still take on most of it, as we will be settled in fairly quickly. It’s just hard to predict how it’s going to go when you have to pick up and go so quickly. Let’s cross our fingers this will be the last one for a little while.
